RI ASKS M'SIA NOT TO ISSUE WORKING VISA TO INDIVIDUAL APPLICANTS

Semarang, Sept 14 (ANTARA) - Indonesia has asked Malaysia not to issue working visa to applicants who fly to that neighboring by using general passports.

"A diplomatic note has been sent," Chief of the National Manpower Placement and Protection (BNP2TKI) Moh Jumhur Hidayat told the press here on Sunday evening.

So far many Malaysians visited Indonesia to seek domestic helpers and workers in villages and then sent to the neighboring country by using a general passport.
As the prospective domestic helpers or workers arrived in Malaysia, they were provided with a working visa, as the Malaysian government would issue a working permit at the request of the employers.
Jumhur predicted that there were about 200 to 300 thousands Indonesian workers employed in that Malaysia bypassed manpower recruitment and placement agencies.
In the meantime, the number of Indonesian workers in Malaysia recruited through manpower recruitment and placement agencies reached 350 to 400 thousand.
According to him, it was difficult to find Indonesian workers in Malaysia whose departure to that neighboring country bypassed the manpower recruitment and place agencies.
"To seek them is difficult, as we don't know to whom we have to ask about it. Therefore, if something bad happens to them, it's difficult to protect them," he said.
It is for these reasons that Indonesia should urge Malaysia not to issue working visa for workers whose arrival there bypassed Indonesian manpower recruitment and placement agencies.
