Veep: All illegal import channels to country must be shut down

Tehran, July 19, IRNA – Iran's 1st Vice-President here Monday focusing on the coding system for the entire import goods in the near future, said that one privilege of this project is its anti-smuggling effect.

Accordingly, all illegal import channels to Iran must be shut down said Mohammad-Reza Rahimi.

Rahimi, made the remarks at the weekly session of the Headquarters for Campaign against Economic Corruption (HCEC) Monday evening.

Referring to the government’s presentation of the Bill on Campaign against Goods and Hard Currency Smuggling to the Islamic Parliament, Majlis, Rahimi reiterated: “If this bill would be ratified at the Majlis and turned into a law a major part of the country’s problems regarding smuggling would be solved and a very major step in campaign against the goods and hard currency smuggling would be taken.”

Rahimi, meanwhile referred to the existence of some illegal land and sea entrances on Iranian borders, asking for greater control of the concerned organs over such ports and land entrances to end the illegal entry of goods to Iran, saying “The entire concerned officials, particularly those serving in border provinces must heed the matter urgently and help us in solving the problem that is a serious economic nuisance.”

Rahimi also asked for the convening of a joint session between the HCEC and the Headquarters for Campaign against Goods and Hard Currency Smuggling (HCGCS), saying, “At that session the entire concerned officials would present their proposals and plans aimed at imposing optimum control over the country’s borders to counter the smuggling problem, which is a serious disease for our national economy, effectively.

At the session the Head of Iran's Customs Organization offered a report on some legal and illegal entrances of goods to the country and proposed some ways for controlling and countering the smuggling of goods to Iran, which were put to discussion and some new suggestions, too, were presented./end
