HABIB RIZIEQ PROTESTS PRESENTATION OF PROSECUTION WITNESS

Jakarta, Sept 15 (ANTARA) - Islam Defenders' Front (FPI) leader Habib Rizieq protested the presentation of a witness by prosecution at a court session on his case here Monday.

Rizieq objected to the witness's appearance because, he said, the witness was also a victim of wrong arrest by the police.

Fahrurozi, the witness, had nothing to do with the Monas (National Monument) incident, Rizieq said.

"This person was captured at the FPI headquarters but he was then forced to tell the police much about the Monas incident," he said during a follow up session on the Monas incident for which he is being tried in the Central Jakarta district court.

Rizieq likened the arraignment of Fahrurozi as a witness to the
mistake made by police investigators in the murder of a resident identified as Asrori in Jombang, East Java.

In the meantime, Rizieq's lawyer, Indra Sahnun Lubis, also asked the prosecutors to make a report on the violation committed by police investigators against Fahrurozi as a witnes in his dossier.

The witness had revoked his dossier and he did not know anyhting about the Monas incident. But he was then forced by the police investigator to sign the dossier.

In the meantime, the situation during the court session was not different from previous ones as those who thronged the public gallery were dominated by Rizieq's supporters.

Rizieq's supporters carrying FPI symbols on their costumes seriously followed the court proceedings but sometimes they also shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great).

Many security personnel were seen on guard in and outside the courtroom to prevent unexpected incidents during the court session.
