BSP hits back at Rahul
Lucknow, Jul 21 (PTI) Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi,
the ruling BSP in the north Indian state of UP on Thursday
alleged that he was levelling "baseless and politically
motivated" charges on NRHM and land acquisition issues to
divert people's attention from corruption and various scams
plaguing the UPA government.
Faced with severe criticism over alleged misuse of
National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) funds, a Bahujan Samaj
Party (BSP) spokesman also sought to shift the blame on the
Centre saying, the NRHM runs as per the guidelines of the
central government.
"Those criticising the Uttar Pradesh government should
have also paid attention on the fact that the scheme is run as
per the guidelines of the central government," he said.
Citing the various steps taken by the chief minister
after finding "some anomalies" in implementation of NRHM, the
spokesman pointed out the achievements of the scheme like
downfall in mortality rate which, he said, are a result of
serious efforts of the state government and should also be
taken into consideration.
"The Congress office bearer (Gandhi) is out to woo
the farmers and youths making tall promises with an eye
on the coming assembly elections next year. Congress leaders
are moving about misguiding the farmers on land acquisition
instead of exerting pressure on the UPA government even as the
entire country knows that the law in this regard has to be
amended by the union government," he said. MORE PTI SAB

Describing the charges levelled by Gandhi as totally
"baseless and politically motivated", he said, "These are
irresponsible statements made to divert people's attention
from corruption and various scams plaguing the UPA
government".
The spokesman termed Gandhi's "purvanchal tour" as a
"drama" and said Gandhi should "sympathise with the farmers in
the Congress ruled states and wipe their tears".
Gandhi today lashed out at the Mayawati regime over
the NRHM irregularities, saying any other government would
have stepped down in such a situation.
The Congress leader, who is on a two-day visit to
eastern UP, said the BSP regime had proved itself to be "the
most corrupt government ever" indulging in "politics of loot".
