I-T raids against Mamooty, Mohanlal
2ND LD RAID
I-T raids against Mamooty, Mohanlal
Kochi, Jul 22 (PTI) Income Tax authorities on Friday
conducted out simultaneous raids at the houses and business
premises of Malayalam superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal in
Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka following information that
they had wealth allegedly disproportionate to known sources of
their income.
The two south Indian actors were under I-T scanner for the
past few months and the raids came after 'specific
information' was received against them, I-T department sources
said here.
The sources said Rs 15 lakh in cash were seized from
Mammootty's residence at Panampilly nagar in Kochi the source
of which was not readily available. Several documents were
also seized which were being examined, they said.
Mammootty, who arrived here from Chennai along with his
wife, refused to talk to the media at the airport.
Preliminary statements by Mammooty and Mohanlal have been
recorded and both were cooperating with the investigation, the
sources said.
The actors were not in Kerala at the time of the raids
which were carried out in 20 places, including Chennai,
Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Bangalore and Udhagamandalam
(Ooty). The raids were likely to continue for two more days.
Mohanlal, who was at his shooting location at Rameshwaram
in Tamil Nadu, has been given two days time by the IT
officials to reach Kochi and give his statement.
Documents recovered during the searches were being
examined, Additional Director General of Income Tax
(Investigation) R Mohan, in-charge of the probe, told PTI.
A sensor room inside Mohanlal's residence could not be
opened by the officials, the sources said.
The searches are being conducted as per Section 132 of
the Income Tax Act (relating to search and seizure). PTI UD
