Dewani's extradition ruling next month
London, Jul 22 (PTI) A British court will decide next
month whether to extradite Shrien Dewani, an NRI businessman
accused of paying for the murder of his Indo-Swedish wife
during their honeymoon in South Africa.
A hearing into his extradition finished yesterday at
Belmarsh Magistrates Court here, with the family of Anni
Dewani begging for justice.
The court was told about the mental health of
Bristol-based businessman Dewani who denies the accusations
against him.
Dewani's legal team said he was suffering
post-traumatic stress disorder and argued he was too unwell to
be extradited.
But the lawyer representing the South African
authorities rejected those fears.
A ruling from Judge Howard Riddle is expected on 10
August on whether he is fit to stand trial in South Africa,
BBC reported.
Authorities who are seeking his extradition allege
that Dewani, 31, arranged the killing of his bride Anni in a
car-jacking in Cape Town in November last year.
Taxi driver Zola Tongo, who has admitted his part in
the murder of Anni, claimed in a plea agreement with
prosecutors that Dewani ordered the car-jacking.
After the four-day hearing, Anni's father Vinod
Hindocha said he had "full faith in the British justice
system". PTI NSA
