India's nuke liability law as per international norms: govt
New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) India Saturday maintained that
its liability law on nuclear damages was in accordance with
international norms, days after US Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton suggested that New Delhi should engage the
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to make its
liability regime at par with global requirement.
Maintaining that Clinton was expressing her country's
view, government sources here said India intends to proceed
with its domestic law passed by Parliament, rules of which
were being framed and added that there was no non-
compatibility between India and the US on the issue.
They also said New Delhi was in discussions with Indian
as well as American companies on the issue as it is very
"serious" in meeting its energy demands.
Noting that the country has already inked the UN
Convention on Supplementary Compensation on Nuclear Damages,
the sources said it also intends to ratify it. PTI PYK
