Ahmadinejad Felicitates Hu on 40th Anniversary of Iran-China Ties

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a message to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, congratulated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of political ties between Iran and the People's Republic of China.
In his message, Ahmadinejad called for further promotion of Tehran-Beijing relations.

"I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to you and the country's government on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the People's Republic of China," the Iranian president underlined.

Iran and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations on August 16, 1971.

The Iranian president said that he is confident that bilateral relations will be further strengthened because Iran-China ties are based on mutual understanding and will serve the interests of both countries.

China is a major trade partner of Iran. The two countries are endeavoring to enhance their bilateral trade ties significantly. Crude supplies constitute a major part of Iran's exports to China.

Iran is currently China's third largest crude supplier, providing China with roughly 12% of its total annual oil consumption needs - nearly one million barrels per day.
