Youth From Ten Countries Participates in Doha Conference

Doha, July 25 (QNA) - The Global Citizen Corps International Youth Gathering is currently underway at the Education City in Doha to discuss several social and environmental issues and to get involved in activities designed to stimulate learning and cross-cultural sharing.
Twenty participants from ten countries will take part in the conference to discuss five key issues, organized by global humanitarian organization Mercy Corps, together with its strategic partner, Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar.
Celebrating the International Year of Youth: Youth as Leaders, Change Makers, and Connected Global Citizens, will discuss on five key issues that are central to the Global Citizen Corps curriculum: environment and climate change, education, food security and hunger, health, and peace and conflict.
Director of the Global Citizen Corps Sarah Warren said that it is suitable to hold the conference in Qatar as the country is playing a major role to handle the political developments in the Middle East and North Africa.
"This is a dynamic and historic time in the Middle East and North Africa, with Qatar playing a leading role in the events of the moment, as well as in the effort to tackle on-going humanitarian and development issues in the region and beyond. It is fitting to have these young leaders here, now, sharing ideas about how they can contribute to building a better future," she said.
Participants will strengthen their skills in areas such as the use of film and photography to support self-expression and community work, and the use of advocacy and social media to promote positive community change, according to Qatari daily (The Peninsula).
"This training program will add more value to participants knowledge to make a positive change in the community," said Andrea Koppel, Vice President, Mercy Corps.
The participants from Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories (Gaza), Pakistan, Indonesia, the US, the UK, and Haiti between the age of 16 and 25 will look forward for networking opportunities and sharing experience.
Participants will also visit important cultural sites in Doha and take part in service activities that give back to the local communities.
