Qatar Charity Launches Horn of Africa Relief Campaign
Doha (QNA) - Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a new campaign for urgent relief aid to Horn of Africa amid the worst wave of drought to have hit the region in 60 years.
Under the slogan : " 11 Million At Risk Save Them Act Now", the campaign, which comes in response to the ongoing QC urgent relief operations, aims to alleviate the sufferings of the people affected by the current famine in Somalia, targeting the displaced people in the Capital Mogadishu
In a press statement , QC Director of Public Relations and Resources Development Ghanem Jaber al-Kubaisi urged the International Community to enhance its emergency humanitarian interventions to save lives of 12 million people facing starvation, with an estimated 3.7 million people, across Somalia, after the United Nations has declared a famine in parts of southern Somalia.
On the occasion, al-Kubaisi launched a call for donations upon the Qatari community, known for its generous support to all needy people, and residents of Qatar to provide financial assistance to the drought victims of Horn of Africa through this campaign.
Financial donations varies from food baskets valued at QR170 each (containing 25 kg of flour, 25 kg of rice, 3 liters of oil, and 2 kg of dates) to meals (two meals per day) worth QR 15, waterproof tents (QR 55) or non-food items worth QR 185.
Donors can also contribute by providing health services through running medical caravans or reforming and rebuilding deserted wells.
Financial contributions for the campaign are received only through: Qatar Charity headquarters, its branches within the State of Qatar and collectors in shopping centres or by donation to the Qatar Islamic Bank account No.1059026, said al-Qubaissi.
Qatar Charity is the second relief provider of famine hit people in Somalia in July outperforming major UN humanitarian organisations in term of quick interaction, said an international humanitarian report.
Qatar Charity has provided QR800,000 aid to rehabilitate 14,000 displaced Somalis in Mogadishu. It also launched on January an urgent relief project for Somalia totaling QR365.000.
