QCB's Governor: Qatar's Economy Immune to US Debt Crisis

Doha, July 26 (QNA) - Governor of Qatar Central Bank HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani stressed that Qatar's economy will be immune to the repercussions of US debt crisis, saying that the Qatari economy has the immunity that protects it from the crisis.
In a statement to the Qatari daily (Al-Arab), Governor of Qatar Central Bank said that QCB is following up the current developments in Washington, which are expected to be away from the local indicators.
He also expected that the US administration will be able to find a solution to this financial dilemma during the next seven days, stressing that inflation levels in Qatar is under control although it may become a challenge in the event of a continuing decline of the US dollar and consequently the decline of the Qatari riyal.
The Governor renewed emphasis on the strength of the Qatari economy, which has a strong immunity against crises, pointing to a growth of 18% this year, according to IMF forecasts, and a growth of 29%, according to the Arab Monetary Fund.
HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saud Al Thani warned of the international negative economic effects in case they could not reach an agreement to raise the US debt ceiling before the August 2 deadline.
He also expressed his belief that the White House and Congress will agree a deal to raise the US debt ceiling. (QNA)
