Qatar Committed to Support Alliance of Civilizations, Promote Intercultural Dialogue
Cairo, July 27 (QNA) - Vice chairman of Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilizations, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim Al Mohannadi on Wednesday reaffirmed the State of Qatar's keenness on supporting the alliance of civilizations and promoting intercultural dialogue between different cultures around the world in order to achieve the aspirations of people for freedom, human right, reform and democratic transformation.
Dr. Al Mohannadi made his remarks in an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the Alliance of Civilizations Forum, which kicked off today at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, under the theme of " Democracy Building; Exchange of Reform Experiences & Meet the Challenges".
The event is being organized by the Alliance of Civilizations Initiative in collaboration with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and a number of international organizations.
The State of Qatar takes part in this forum, which aims to bridge the gap in views between the states in preparation for the Fourth International Forum on the Alliance of Civilizations, due to be held in Doha in December, said Dr. Al Mohannadi.
The current forum, which is held at a crucial stage in the history of the Arab region, aims at supporting the democratic process there, he continued.
It reviews as well a number of democracies and their experiences with democratic transitions in light of recent Arab popular uprisings, including Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Tunisia and Egypt, said Dr. Al Mohannadi .
Qatar's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, HE Ambassador Saleh Abdullah Al-Buainain will submit tomorrow the working paper on the preparative to host the Fourth International Forum on the Alliance of Civilizations, which includes his country's vision on means of enhancing the Forum's objectives aimed at promoting education, development and media, he explained.
The State of Qatar is among the founding members of the Alliance of Civilizations Initiative, which receives direct support of HH Sheikh Moza Bint Nasser and leads a number of pilot initiatives such as Silatech meant to connect Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's young people with employment and enterprise opportunities, he said.
Committed to the success of the Alliance of Civilizations' goals, Qatar has established the Committee for Alliance of Civilizations with a view to consolidate its role in highlighting the contribution of the Arab and Islamic civilization alongside with other civilizations to enhance human development and the dialogue role, solving conflicts, confirming values of tolerance, solidarity and peace between the people of the world, and combating extremism and fanaticism.
