Saudi seeking to rehabilitate image through amity with Iran: MP
TEHRAN, July 30 (MNA) -- Iranian MP Kazem Jalali has said that Saudi Arabian officials are interested in fostering a close relationship with Iran to be able to rehabilitate their country’s image.
“Saudi Arabia has committed many wrongs in the region, particularly in Yemen and Bahrain” and is currently in a very bad situation regarding public opinion, Jalali, who is the rapporteur of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told ISNA in an interview published on Monday.
Saudi Arabian officials are interested in developing a close relationship with Tehran to utilize Iran’s potential with the aim of repairing the damage to the image of their country, Jalali noted.
He also said that Riyadh must withdraw its troops from Bahrain, apologize to the Bahraini nation, and stop serving the interests of the United States if it wants to improve its situation.
Asked about the possibility of holding negotiations between Iranian and Saudi Arabian officials, Jalali said, “First of all, Saudi Arabia should modify its behavior” and then the issue of negotiations could be discussed.
