Colombia Keen to Develop Mutual Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Colombian official underlined his country's enthusiasm for the further consolidation of mutual cooperation with Iran.
The issue was emphasized by Colombian Deputy President for Senate Affairs Senator Alexander Lopez Maya during a meeting with Iranian Vice-President for Management and Human Resources Development Lotfollah Forouzandeh.

Lopez Maya also underlined Iran's key role in the Middle-East and called for the further expansion of cooperation between the two states in agricultural, mining and environmental fields.

"Colombia can increase its cooperation (with Iran) in these fields," the senator reiterated, and said Iranian officials are well aware of the importance of ties with Latin America, Colombia in particular.

He also lauded Iran's achievements in civilian nuclear technology, hi-techs, aerospace industry and the health sector.

Iran has sought to expand ties and cooperation with Latin America, specially since President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad ascended to power six years ago.

In line with the same policy, President Ahmadinejad has gone on several official trips to major Latin American countries, including Brazil, Bolivia and Venezuela.

During his visits, Ahmadinejad has signed a number of agreements with the leaders of Latin America in a bid to strengthen Iran's foothold in South America.
