Absence of foreign troops strengthens security: Defense minister

Tehran, Aug 8, IRNA – Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that as soon as the US soldiers and other foreign troops leave the regional countries, the countries of the region will witness reinforcement of security in the region.

Brigadier General Vahidi made the remark to reporters at the end of the cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday.

“Islamic Republic of Iran has announced several times that the security of some regional countries is attributed to the absence of US troops in these countries,” he added.

Asked about the crash of a US helicopter with 31 soldiers on board in Afghanistan, defense minister noted that the presence of foreign troops not only creates problems for the people of the region, it will also create problems for the occupiers.

“Those countries which send soldiers to other countries are themselves subject to casualties,” Brigadier General Vahidi added.

He pointed out that the people of the Middle East and North Africa can themselves maintain and guarantee their security./end
