GOVT, DPR AGREE ON ELECTRICITY SUBSIDY OF RP60.43 TRILLION
Jakarta, Sept. 17 (ANTARA) - The government and the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission VII have agreed on the allocation of electricity subsidy amounting to Rp60.43 trillion with a power growth assumption of seven percent.
The agreement was reached in a meeting between Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro and members of the DPR's Commission VII here on Wednesday.
The subsidy figure was in accordance with those stated in the Financial Note delivered by Presidnet Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at Parliament Building, last August 15, 2008.
Minister Yusgiantoro said that he would do an optimal usage of gas in 10 power plants with a total demand of 889 billion British Thermal Unit per Day (BBTUD) to achieve the Rp60.43 trillion subsidy and seven percent growth of power.
Without a gas usage optimization program, the electricity growth would only by at 5.63 percent, while th subsidy would remain Rp60.43 trillion, he said.
He promised to deal with a number of problems concerning gas supplies to power plants.
Currently, the country has 13 power plants having a total capacity of 9,551 MW with a total need of gas supplies amounting to 1,595 BBTUD.
Through the optimization program the government would do its utmost to supply 899 BBTUD of gas, or 55.7 percent in 2009, he said.
The 10 power plants include PLTGU Gresik (with a gas demand of 220 BBTUD, PLTGU Muara Tawar (250 BBTUD), PLTGU Cilegon (80 BBTUD), and PLTGU Tanjung Priok (120 BBTUD), PLTGU Muara Karang (40 BBTUD), PLTGU Belawan (25 BBTUD), PLTG Aceh Timur (15 BBTUD), PLTGU Tanjung Priok (40 BBTUD), PLTGU Muara Karang (30 BBTUD), PLTGU Muara Karang Repowering (100 BBTUD,) and PLTGU Belawan 105 BBTUD, and
