PRESIDENT : NOT ALL PROBLEMS CAN BE SOLVED INSTANTLY

Cirebon, W Java, Sept 17 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in his Ramadan safari here on Wednesday said not all problems the country was facing could be solved instantly.

"The government has never stopped solving the country's problems, including the problem of fishermen's welfare but in many cases the problem-solving is of course done in stages," the President said in a dialog with around 250 fishermen at Kejawanan fishery port here on Wednesday.

The head of state said Indonesia, with its vast territory was a big country in terms of population and therefore it needed huge amounts of funds and continuous programs to overcome various problems.

"Besides the central government, all political parties are expected to participate in the efforts to overcome the problems," Yudhoyono said, adding that West Java province and the city of Cirebon had opportunities to improve their trade and economic sectors.

The president said the improvement of fishermen's welfare was one of the government's objectives in its marine development effort.

"I have said that we have to make every effort to improve the fishermen's welfare through the provision of fishing boats, fishing tools and fuel," Yudhoyono said.

Accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, State Minister for Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Suryadarma Ali, Health Affairs Minister Siti Fadila Supari, Transportation Minister Jusman Syafii Djamal, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Freddy Numberi, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, and several other ministers, the head of state also extended 2,000 packages of basic commodities to the fishermen.

On the occasion the president called on the fishermen to pay attention to the environment and ecological balance in their sea fish breeding activity.

"I ask fishermen not to use fish breeding methods that cause damage to the ecosystem and environmental balance," the president said.

He added that the fishermen's fish breeding businesses in Cirebon seemed to be running well and therefore they needed to be continuously developed.
