LEHMAN BROS' COLLAPSE NOT TO AFFECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN RI : OFFICIAL

Jakarta, Sept 17 (ANTARA) - An Indonesian investment official said here on Wednesday he believed the collapse of Lehman Brothers in the United States would not affect foreign investment in the country.
"Internationally it will affect investment but it will not affect direct investment in Indonesia and our target is direct investment by companies," deputy chairman of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Yus'an said.
He said he was optimistic the target of investment growth this year which was set at 15 percent would be met using the new promotion strategy.
"BKPM has already set a target and a focus on countries and sectors for promotion. We will focus on Japan, Korea and also the US," he said.
In certain countries the focus of the promotion would be on certain sectors such as mining in Australia, tourism and agriculture in Middle Eastern countries, he said.
Yus'an said the rate of realized investment plans had continued to grow. From January to June, the figure grew 160 percent compared to the same period last year when it was recorded at US$6.56 billion.
