Shammi Kapoor: Bollywood mourns an icon's death


Mumbai, Aug 14 (PTI) Amitabh Bachchan calls him the
most flamboyant star while Sharmila Tagore feels he was one of
a kind, the young and old alike from Indian film industry
Bollywood Sunday mourned the demise of veteran actor Shammi
Kapoor and saluted his "joie de vivre".
Amitabh Bachchan, who worked with Shammi in the 1991 film
'Ajooba', said, "Shammi Kapoorji passed away this morning at
5:15 am. Rushing there now. The flamboyance and 'joie de
vivre' of the Industry lost!. An entire life full of optimism
and happy spirit, caring loving to all. Now suddenly silent."
Signing legend Lata Mangeshkar remembered Shammi Kapoor
as a "courageous and lively person".
"I am saddened by the demise of Shammi Kapoorji. He was
very lively and courageous. He was a great singer too and
used to call me as his sister. May his soul rest in peace,"
Mangeshkar tweeted.
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth Sunday said that Shammi will
always remain in his heart.
"I am a great admirer and a huge fan of Shammiji. His
energy on screen is a treat to watch and I have loved every
bit of it. His demise is a huge loss to the film industry and
fraternity and mainly to his millions of fans. I convey my
heart felt condolences to all in his family," Rajinikanth
said.
"O mere sona... you will always live in our hearts," he
added.
Sharmila Tagore who made her Bollywood debut opposite the
actor in the 1964 film 'Kashmir Ki Kali' said, "It is
certainly an end of an era. He was one of a kind,
completely unique," said Tagore.
"I am in shock. He was an institution in himself," said
director Yash Chopra.
Young stars like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Karan
Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Riteish Deshmukh took to twitter to
condole the death of the veteran actor.

"The narrative of Shammi Kapoor will not end with his
passing away. His movies will continue to enchant the future
generations!," filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said.
"The great iconic Shammi Kapoor who defined an era n
influenced music, dance and song even today has passed away,
leaving a hollow void," filmmaker Shekhar Kapur said.
The young brigade of Bollywood also poured their grief
over the death of the legend on Twitter.
"One of finest and strongest men I knew...we will
truly miss you shammi uncle....RIP....," filmmaker Karan Johar
said.
"Mr Shammi Kapoor. Never before - Never again. Thank you
for the wonderful cinematic memories and life lessons. RIP,"
tweeted actor-singer-director Farhan Akhtar.
"Sad to hear the demise of Shammiji,the Yahoo of Indian
Cinema. Your charmful exuberance and full of life style will
forever be missed by all of us, RIP," Fashion director, Madhur
Bhandarkar said.
"All Indian netizens should mourn today. Pioneer of
internet and the first president of internet soc of ind in the
80's Shammi Kapoor passed away. Thankfully Shammiji has left
us with his one last performance in "Rockstar" (sic)," tweeted
Anurag Kashyap.
"Sometimes no amount of kind words can compensate for
a loss! bhole baba ki jai shammi maharajji.. he was our
guruji..im at a loss.. nothing will ever fill the void u have
left. im sorry i didnt try RESSEE.. but wil do.. only for u..
RIP (sic)," actress Priyanka Chopra tweeted.
"He was an inspiration not just for his style and the
films he did, but also his attitude towards life...we will
miss you Shammi uncle...," actress Deepika Padukone said.
"RIP SHAMMI KAPOOR- the most stylish actor ever- we
love you n we will miss you," actor Riteish Deshmukh said.
