Cairo, August 15 (QNA) - The State of Qatar is keen to support the efforts aimed at developing rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament and performing its functions in order to promote joint Arab action in all fields, Advisory Council member, Yusuf Rashid Al-Khater said on Monday.
Al-Khater, who heads Qatar's delegation to the meeting of the Committee in charge of amending the rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament, held here under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman, Al-Tayeb Al-Mesbahi, said the meeting aims at reconsidering the rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament according to the recommendations taken by the special assessment committee during its previous meeting in Cairo.
There is a consensus towards promoting the Arab Parliament committees within one year until the Parliament is reassigned permanently, said Al-Khater.
Qatar has submitted its vision to develop the rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament as part of improving the Arab parliamentary work in light of the current developments taking place across the region, he added.
Discussions also dealt with amendments to the rules of procedure of the Arab Parliament to achieve greater transparency in the work of this Arab regional institution besides a number of technical issues related to the Parliament meetings, terms of references its executive Office and the quorum, Al-Mesbahi told reporters.
The Arab Parliament Committee is scheduled to hold on Tuesday a meeting on human trafficking and e-commerce.
The Arab Parliament was approved to be established by the Arab summit in Amman of Jordan in 2001. (
