Mirza orders repair of rain-ravaged infrastructure

Karachi, August 16, 2011 (PPI): Sindh Senior Minister for Work and Services Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza Tuesday ordered early repair of rain-ravaged roads and buildings in the province, saying the government was taking all out steps for rehabilitation of the affected people.

He instructed officers of his department to re-open flooded roads by pumping out accumulated rainwater in the affected areas. He said a report about the roads and government buildings damaged in the recent rains should be submitted and their repair started without further delay. He said clean drinking water, food, medicines and other basic facilities should be provided to displaced people, presently living in various relief camps. He said teachers, doctors and paramedics should be deputed in these camps to assist the displaced people.

He said the government is committed to rehabilitate the rain-hit people as early as possible and bureaucracy should work tirelessly in this regard. He warned no negligence would be tolerated and stern action be taken against officers found showing laxity.
