Notice issued for demolishing DHQ hospital’s TB Ward, nursing hostel, doctors’ residences

SIALKOT, August 16, 2011 (PPI): The buildings department has issued a notice to the management of Government Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital to demolish the hospital’s TB Ward, nursing hostel buildings and 15 residential houses of the doctors within a week for establishing the new building of Government Khawaja Safdar Medical College.

This demolition will cost millions of lose to the provincial government, as the said DHQ hospital was already facing space shortage problems to accommodate the hospital doctors, paramedics and other staff.

The concerned official said that a new well-equipped hall and auditorium would be established by spending millions of rupees after the demolition of TB Ward, nursing hostel buildings and 15 residential houses of the doctors.

The notice served to the hospital management also revealed that the above mentioned TB Ward, nursing hostel buildings and 15 houses of the doctors should immediately be evacuated to ensure their early demolition within a week.

It is worth mentioning that the doctors deputed on emergency duties have been living in said 15 houses to be demolished, which added to the miseries of the doctors.

While, the provincial government will have to bear extra expenditure of lakhs of rupees as the house rent to be paid the staff ,paramedics and doctors to be affected monthly.

Local social, religious and political circles have expressed grave concern over this situation and they have urged the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to shelve the project of establishing the building of Govt. Khawaja Safdar Medical College in the larger public interest.
