Hyundai Grandeur, Avante win U.S. 'ideal' car awards
SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co.'s 2011 Grandeur large sedan and Avante compact have been named the best cars for meeting owners' demands, a leading U.S.-based automotive and consulting firm said Wednesday.
According to AutoPacific, the two cars ranked No. 1 among the 24 different types of passenger cars, pickups and vans evaluated for this year's Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA).
The IVA report is based on polls conducted on 72,000 customers of the 2011 model cars, with questions covering such areas as the roominess of the interior, comfort, handling, cargo space, power and acceleration.
Cars are rated for meeting the demands of the owners, with AutoPacific saying that the annual award is a benchmark for vehicles that are designed and built with customers in mind.
Grandeur, called the Azera in the U.S. market, scored the highest in the large car category, with the Avante, sold as the Elantra, selected as the best in the compact car segment.
In addition, Hyundai, South Korea's largest carmaker, came in second in the mainstream car brand award for the year, after Chrysler Group LLC but ahead of Ford Motor Co.
