JI to challenge FATA civil power regulations in Supreme Court

Landikotal, August 18, 2011 (PPI): Jamaat-e-Islami KPK leadership has termed the FATA civil power regulations 2011 as more dangerous than Frontier Crimes Regulations FCR and announced to challenge it in Supreme Court.

While welcoming the political parties’ extension order to FATA, Jamaat-e-Islami KPK general secretary Shabir Ahmad Khan said that reforms in FRC had lost values in the presence of the civil power regulations (CPR).

JI provincial general secretary Shabir Ahmad Khan, who took oath as acting Ameer JI KPK in the absence of senator professor Ibrahim during his short visit to Landikotal for a condolence, told media men that civil power regulations would be nullified through the Supreme Court because this regulation was in violation of constitution of Pakistan and the basic human rights.

“The president has signed a document for the tribal people, which is worse than FCR as it includes death penalty and life imprisonment on the testimony of any army or government official,” Shabir Ahmad Khan observed.

JI FATA Ameer Sahibzada Haroon Ur Rasheed said on the occasion that the ten parties’ leadership under the banner of FATA reforms had been kept in darkness while signing the inhuman and draconian civil power regulations for FATA.

He criticized the government for empowering the army for any arbitrary action in tribal areas through CPR.

Haroon Ur Rasheed said CPR consisted of 26 sections, which were all meant to humiliate the innocent tribesmen. Any person feared to be dangerous could be punished under the CPR, he expressed with astonishment.

He also urged both print and electronic media to hold discussions on the cruel inhuman regulations for FATA.
