LCCI handed over 12 wagonloads of 276 ton relief goods by ICCI to flood affected areas


LAHORE, August 18, 2011 (PPI): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Thursday handed over 12 wagonloads of 276 ton relief goods worth Rs.15 million, donated by the Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to Disaster Management Authority for their onward dispatch to the flood affected areas.

The relief goods comprise blankets, dates, soap, eatables and daily-use items were jointly received by Iranian Consul General in ahore Mr Ali Nekan, LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik and Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khalid Sher Dil, LCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad and former LCCI President Mohsin Raza Bukhari at Lahore Cantt Railway Station.

Speaking on the occasion, the Iranian Consul General Mr Ali Nekan said that Iranian people put their Pakistani brothers in high esteem and cannot leave them alone in the hour of need. He said that the goods have been selected keeping view the day-to-day needs of the flood hit people and in consultation with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He paid rich tributes to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry for making consistent and persistent efforts aimed at facilitating the flood affectees.

The LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik said that an arrangement with the Disaster Management Authority has been finalized for the distribution of relief goods in the flood-hit area. He thanked the Iranian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for sending the relief goods and said that a judicious distribution would be ensured.

Shahzad Ali Malik said that the LCCI was constructing 150 houses in Leyyah, Shahbazabad and other affiliated areas. He said that possession of 50 houses was given to the affected families while 100 houses would be completed soon. He said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was in constant contact with the local administration in the flood-hit areas.

Director General Punjab Disaster Management Authority Khalid Sher Dil said that the PDMA would ensure distribution of relief goods and flood-hit areas in consultation with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said that PDMA was making all out efforts to facilitate the affectees to the maximum.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Sheikh Mohammad Arshad also lauded the efforts of Iran Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He informed the participants that two mosques were also being constructed in the flood-affected area of District Leyyah.
