Cong claims Advani's statement has exposed 'power-hungry' BJP
New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) Slamming senior Bharatiya Janata
Party (BJP) leader L K Advani's statement asking Indian Prime
Minister to step down and seek a fresh mandate, Congress
Tuesday claimed that it had exposed the "opportunistic"
politics of his "power-hungry" party which had no interest in
anti-corruption campaign.
The opposition's party's only agenda is to transform the
dream of the "Prime Minister-in-permanent waiting" into
reality and the statement exposes "opportunistic, temporary
and expedient" politics of BJP, party spokesperson
Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.
He alleged, "BJP is not interested in anti corruption
campaign nor in Lokpal or strengthening of institutions to
fight corruption but in grabbing power. It is power hungry."
Singhvi's statement came even as the BJP distanced
itself from the statement of Advani against Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh.
"I don't want to comment on this issue. I am too small
a person to comment on it," Deputy Leader of BJP in Rajya
Sabha S S Ahluwalia said when asked whether the party
agreed with Advani's views.
Speaking at a party function in Nellore in southeastern
Indian state Andhra Pradesh on August 21, Advani had said due
to the spate of scams in this government, Singh, who, he said,
had not fought direct elections, should quit the post and
contest.
Other senior leaders from the BJP have also distanced
themselves from Advani's views and refused to comment.
