Speaker National Assembly urges world’s humanitarian agencies, philanthropists, affluent help rain, flood-hit people of Sindh

Badin, August 19, 2011 (PPI): Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza urged world’s humanitarian agencies, philanthropists and affluent to provide assistance for rain and flood-hit people of Badin and other areas of Sindh province.

She also urged UN World Food Program for help to avoid possible food starvation in affected areas. Speaking during visit to relief camps in Union Council Kazi Kadia in Badin, she said devastation was so massive that government resources were inadequate to cope with the situation. National & Provincial Disaster Management authorities still lack capacity to deal with disasters.

Dr Fehmida Mirza said women and children were worst affected. Millions of acres of standing corps were destroyed, orchards damaged, infrastructure, houses washed away which will have drastic economic impact on the population, she stated.

She said Badin, Thatta and Mirpurkhas are food baskets of Sindh province and need special attention for their economic revival. She distributed food stuff, tents, drinking water, other relief material in relief camps at villages Adil Khaskheli, Ghulam Hussain Perhiar, Gul Mohammad Perhiar, Master Noor Mohammad and other surrounding villages.
