Senior MP Blasts US Meddling in Syria's Internal Affairs

TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian legislator lambasted Washington's interference in Syria's internal affairs, and said that the White House merely seeks to pursue the interests of the US and the Zionist regime.
"The US interferes in all international developments and we are witnessing Washington's meaningful meddling in Syria," Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazzem Jalali said on Saturday.
In a statement issued on August 18 by the White House, US President Barack Obama called on his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad to step down.
The Iranian lawmaker told MNA that the US and the West believe that the resistance movement belongs to one or two regimes.
However, this is wrong as the resistance movement is rooted in the awakening of the Muslim nations, Jalali said.
The United States merely pursues the interests of Israel and itself, he pointed out.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March with demonstrations held both against and in support of President Assad's government.
Hundreds of people have been killed when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes between alleged protesters and state security forces as well as organized attacks by armed gangs against Syrian police forces.
