US wastes trillions of dollars on terror war: Pak daily

Islamabad, Sept 4, IRNA – Pakistani news daily on Saturday said that US has wasted more than a trillion dollars in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In its editorial comments ‘Pakistan Observer’ said that because of these misadventures which are legacies of senior and junior Bush, the American economy is witnessing downslide.

“A report by Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies even estimates the total cost at $3.7 trillion”, it said.

The newspaper said that it is a huge cost and that is why there is a hue and cry in the country and people have started questioning how and why there is a necessity for US adventurism and for that taxpayers are being burdened.

“Unemployment is on the rise and as a result the popularity of Obama, is dwindling and there are doubts whether he would be able to win the second term”, said Pakistan Observer.

The newspaper said it is time for the US leadership to have a review of its policy of aggressions in Iraq and Afghanistan and see what it achieved comparing with failures and losses.

It said the country is now depending on Chinese loans and forced to massive cuts in budget. “We believe that the US economy can no more sustain huge costs for wars in Afghanistan and Iraq”, said the editorial.

It said that the draw down of 33,000 troops would not be significant because still there would remain 70,000 American troops in Afghanistan and according to estimates each soldier costs more than two million dollar a year and therefore it is time that the US policy of adventurism in different parts of the world to show its muscles should come to an end./end
