Ahmadinejad congratulates Thailand's new premier

Tehran, Sept 4, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad congratulated the election of Thailand's new prime minister and wished for development of good old relations between the two countries in various fields.

Ahmadinejad, in a message to the new PM Yingluck Shinawatra, called for expansion of international, regional and bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Bangkok.

The Iranian president wished prosperity of Thailand people and government in his message to the new premier.

The Prime Minister is the head of government of Thailand. She is also the chairperson of the Cabinet of Thailand.

The Prime Minister is elected by a vote in the Thai House of Representatives with a simple majority and then is officially sworn-in and endorsed by the King of Thailand. The king's endorsement is usually based on the fact that the prime minister is either the leader of the largest political party in the lower house or the leader of the largest coalition of parties./end
