Commander: Military Threat in Caspian Sea Repelled by Air Force Powerful Response

TEHRAN (FNA)- Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Hossein Chitforoush disclosed here on Tuesday that the western countries had posed a military threat to Iran in the Caspian Sea a few years ago, but the powerful reaction shown by the country's Air Force repelled the serious threat.
"After we faced a naval threat in the Caspian Sea in 1382 (March 2003-March 2004), the necessary actions were taken and our command center prepared (itself for confrontation)," the commander told reporters in a press conference here in Tehran today.
This is for the first time that an Iranian military commander speaks about Iran's decisive response to a military threat in the Caspian Sea, but the commander declined to announce further details.
He further added that Iran's powerful reaction forced the western countries to back down.
"Such events demonstrate Air Force's preparedness to confront any threat against our Islamic land," Chitforoush reiterated.
In relevant remarks, a senior Iranian air defense commander said in August that Iran's power of repelling enemy's spy and reconnaissance planes, including stealth aircrafts, had pushed the US spy planes to change tactics in the confrontation against Iran.
"We have been able to cause a change in the behavior of the US spy and reconnaissance planes flying around our borders," Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli told FNA last month.
He reminded that during the drills conducted by the Iranian naval forces last year, Iran's air-defense units shooed away two US military spy planes seeking to approach the Iranian airspace.
The US planes assumed that they were flying out of the sight of the Iranian air defense unit, but the warning signal showed them the power of Iran's air defense unit in monitoring enemies' aerial moves, he added.
