Khar calls on her Iranian counterpart
ISLAMABAD, September 12, 2011 (PPI): Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar met her Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi, on her arrival in Tehran, says a press release received here on Monday.
Foreign Minister Khar is accompanying Prime Mister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on his visit to Iran.
She apprised the Iranian Foreign Minister of the magnitude of the devastation caused by monsoon rains in southern Pakistan. The Iranian Foreign Minister said that in solidarity with the Pakistani people and as an urgent response to the appeal for assistance by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minster Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the Iranian government was sending to Pakistan two plane loads of relief goods especially tents, on September 12.
Foreign Minister Khar thanked her Iranian counterpart for this immediate response.
The two Ministers, as a follow up to their recent meeting in Islamabad, held substantive discussions on bilateral issues and measures to strengthen bilateral economic ties. They also discussed the global and regional situation with particular focus on peace and stability in Afghanistan.
