0.8 million people affected by rains in Sanghar: CM

Shahdadpur, September 12, 2011 (PPI): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that 0.8 million people in District Sanghar have been affected by torrential rains and breaches in saline nullahs whereas rain water has destroyed crops and killed livestock as well.

He said this late Sunday evening while talking to media at PPP's Regional Office after completing his visit of the rain-hit areas of Shahdadpur.

Shah said the communications system has been destroyed in District Sanghar and a grant of Rs. 20 million is being released to give relief to the victims there.

He also said major reason of the destruction is due to the breach in LBOW saline nullah which affected eight districts of Sindh. He said the rain affected people would not be left alone meanwhile all possible relief measures will be taken by the government.

Qaim Ali Shah said the World Food Program (WFP) has been requested for supply of food, drinkable water and medicine while he also encouraged the NGOs to play their part. He directed all government officials to diligently work to provide relief in Sindh and warned that if any complaints regarding negligence of duty is made then strict action will be taken against the person responsible.

Federal Minister Anti-Narcotics Haji Khuda Bux, Provincial Minister for Youth Affairs Jam Madad Ali were also among the visitors.
