Iran, Pakistan call for boost in bilateral ties, economic cooperation

Tehran, September 12, 2011 (PPI): Visiting Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi called for expansion of bilateral relations and economic cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad.

Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and power export from Iran to the neighboring country were also among main topics of discussion between the two leaders who met Monday in Tehran, IRNA news agency reported. Gilani and Rahimi also addressed regional and international developments.

Gilani, who arrived Sunday in Tehran on three-day official visit with a high-ranking delegation including Foreign Minister Ms Hina Rabbani Khar is scheduled to meet with Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad & Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani.

During meeting on Sunday, Ms Hina Khar and Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi called for implementation of agreements signed between two neighboring countries at Iran-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission meeting last week.

Prime Minister will visit Iranian cities of Rasht & Mashhad before departing for Islamabad on Tuesday night.
