TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) Brigadier General Hassan Shahsafi said that his forces have tested the latest series of the smart bombs produced by Iran in the ongoing stage of the massive air drills underway in Northwestern Iran.
Speaking to reporters about the third stage of the 'Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III' air drills, Shahsafi stated, "New smart bombs, including short and long-range missiles and TV signal-guided and thermal air-to-air missiles as well as long-distance long-range smart bombs are tested in the drills."
He added that Iran tested its fighter and fighter-bomber jets, specially home-made Saeqeh fighter jets, for practicing new tactics.
The commander stated that the exercise is also aimed at assessing Iranian pilots and air force combat control units and their ability as rapid reaction forces in logistic missions in time of crisis.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) on Tuesday started the main phase of its four-staged air drills with testing live munitions and missiles.
An array of fighter jets, fighter bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, Sukhoi SU-24 fighter-bombers, Mig-29 and the logistic C-130 planes, and Saeqeh home-made fighter jets have been used in the drills.
The 10-day air drills, codenamed "Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III", started in Northwestern Iran last week.
