Supreme council of Traders rejects amendments in tax returns

Karachi, September 19, 2011 (PPI): The Supreme Council of Traders (SCOT) have rejected amendments in tax returns, which made it mandatory for registered taxpayers to provide national tax number (NTN) or computerized national identity card (CNIC) number of unregistered traders who deal with them.

A meeting chaired by Chief convener SCOT Imran Saeed Baghpati said the wholesale, import, export and industrial sector was already on the brink of collapse due to high input cost and continuous increase in energy and fuel prices.

Baghpati said that the commodity producing sectors are showing low growth while the inflation rate is much higher than what the official statistics show. The budgetary situation is much worse than what the budget documents reveal or the Ministry of Finance projects. Budget subsidies are substantial and going to the wrong people.
