RI NAVAL PATROL ARRESTS 459 FOREIGN VESSELS IN THIS YEAR'S FIRST SEMESTER
Batam, Sept 23 (ANTARA) - During the first semester of 2008, the Indonesian Western Fleet intercepted and stopped 459 foreign vessels in Indonesian waters for alleged offences.
"20-25 of the 459 vessels are still under intensive investigation," chief of the special naval unit, Commodore Sugeng Darmawan said here Tuesday.
He said not all of the vessels are still under investigation, because their captains had the necessary legal documents, and their offences were minor.
Sugeng said the 20-25 fishing vessels had been caught red-handed operating in the Natuna waters. "Mostly are Vietnamese," he said.
