Senior Lawmaker: Iran Resolved to Expand Ties with Turkey

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian officials are determined to expand bilateral ties and cooperation with Turkey, said a senior Iranian parliamentary official in a meeting with Ankara's ambassador to Tehran.
Chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaoddin Boroujerdi met Turkey's ambassador to Tehran on Sunday.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views over other issues of mutual interest.

Boroujerdi stressed the significance of the development and deepening of the relations between the two Muslim nations, and said, "The Islamic Consultative Assembly supports reinvigoration and consolidation of cooperation with the friendly and brotherly country of Turkey in all the various political, economic and social fields."

He further pointed to the abundant efforts made by enemies and third parties to impair the friendly relations between Tehran and Ankara, and reiterated, "Senior officials of the two countries are resolved to further expand the relations in all fields."

"And effort should be made to avoid any negative influence on this trend," Boroujerdi continued.

The Turkish envoy, for his part, underlined the need for exchange of political and parliamentary delegations between the two countries, and said, "Meetings between the Iranian and Turkish political officials pave the ground for the development of mutual cooperation."

At the end of the meeting, the diplomat submitted an invitation from the head of the Turkish parliament's Foreign Affairs Commission to Boroujerdi to pay a visit to Turkey.
