16 Speakers to attend Int'l Conference on Palestinian Intifada

Tehran, Sept 28, IRNA -- Sixteen Parliament Speakers and 8 Deputy Speakers have accepted the invitation to attend the 5th International Conference on Palestinian Intifada, Secretary-General of the Conference, Hossein Sheikholeslam said on Tuesday.
Sheikholeslam noted that Iran will host a 2-day international conference aiming to unite Muslims across the world to end plights of the Palestinian people.
The 5th International Conference on the Palestinian Intifada is scheduled to be held on October 1-2 in Tehran.
The meeting will be chaired by Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani and is expected to be attended by parliamentary speakers, political dignitaries, Palestinian figures and pro-Palestinian activists.
The conference aims to mobilize capacities of the Muslim Ummah and freedom loving nations in support of Palestine for the realization of their legitimate rights,” Sheikholeslam added.
The event will hinge upon the return of the illegally annexed East al-Quds (Jerusalem), the return of all Palestinian refugees displaced by the Zionist regime’s army inside and outside the occupied Palestinian territories, he stated.
Speaking to reporters, Sheikholeslam named Speaker of Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly and Speakers of Malawi Parliament, Zanzibar, Zimbabwe, Algeria, Lebanon, Qatar, Iraq, Comoro Islands, Kuwait, Syria, Mauritania, Paraguay and as well speakers of Afghanistan Upper house (Meshrano Jirga), Lower house (Wolesi Jirga) and the Grand assembly (Loya Jirga) as the speakers who have accepted the Islamic Republic of Iran's invitation to attend the confab.
Accepting the Palestinian Authority's bid to win support at the United Nations for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state will not change the Palestinians' situation and is just a political show; today the balance of power has changed in favor of Palestinians; US could use his veto or influence to impede the Palestinian Authority's bid, he said.
The Palestinian Authority's bid to win support at the United Nations for the recognition of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of the 1967 borders would encompass the Gaza Strip and the West Bank including East al-Quds.
The Palestinians staged an intifada (uprising) against the Israeli occupiers of their territories between 1987 and 1993, and embarked on a second revolt in the 2000s.
Israel unleashed bombardment of Gaza strip after it was forced to withdraw from the area. According to United Nations Relief and Works Agency Israel killed 6,200 Palestinians in a series of indiscriminate bombardment of Gaza residential areas including women, children and civilians.
UNRWA said that Israeli leaders have committed war crimes in Gaza in operations against the Palestinians tantamount to ethnic cleansing./end
