Iran keen on defense co-op to help sustainable peace: Minister

Tehran, Sept 28, IRNA -- Sustainable Peace, stability and security can be achieved by constructive defense cooperation among the regional countries, Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said on Tuesday.

Vahidi made the remarks in a meeting with military attaches of foreign embassies in Tehran on the occasion of the Sacred Defense Week.

Vahidi said that Iran has given preference to bolstering international peace and security in its foreign policy.

'The U.S. pursues the policy of provoking conflicts among countries and escalation of tension and crisis all over the world, while Iran’s foreign policy is based on peace building experience,' Vahidi underscored.

He noted that the military attaches have an important role in developing the defensive cooperation among nations.

Vahidi added that Defense Diplomacy would be used as a tool at the service of development in all national, regional and international scales, adding that the defense diplomacy would build up trust among nations to control war machines.

'While many of the world wars have been made by direct or indirect interference of United States, the Islamic republic of Iran in light of its doctrine of building peace, has done lots of peace making efforts in the region and the world.'

Speaking about US veto power, Vahidi said that the world needs a system which provides all states with equal rights.

“Deterrence is the milestone of Iran’s national security doctrine and nuclear weapons have no place in Iranian security strategy. US wages propaganda against Iran's peaceful nuclear activities to hide stockpiles of Tel Aviv weapons of mass destruction from international inspectors.'

The Islamic Awakening movements in the region have been inspired by Iran 1979 Islamic Revolution, a torch which shows a brighter future.

Each year, the anniversary of Iraqi-imposed war on Iran is marked as 'Sacred Defense Week'.

On the occasion, military parades are held in Tehran and other cities, demonstrating military preparedness to defend the country.

Iraq imposed war on Iran on September 22, 1980 by invasion of the Iranian province of Khuzestan with full support of the United States. The US was used to providing Iraqi army with data about concentration of Iranian troops it was obtaining from the satellite systems helping Iraqi air and missile strikes./end
