Iran-Belarus FMs consult on issues of mutual interest

New York, Sept 28, IRNA – On the sidelines of the 66th annual meeting of the UN General Assembly, foreign ministers of Iran and Belarus consulted on issues of mutual interest here on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, by referring to good political relations underlined that economic ties should also be promoted accordingly.

Referring to intention of both countries' senior officials for promotion of cooperation, Salehi added that interests and commonalities of Iran and Belarus, as well as Iran's regional situation and capacities in the fields of energy, transit, road and railroad transportation, scientific and industrial affairs are appropriate grounds for expansion of cooperation.

Belarus Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov, for his part, described existing political relations 'excellent' and added that independent viewpoints of both countries have caused proximity of political views and the two countries are also complement to each other economically.

He also called for more cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation and joint projects.

Martynov also invited his Iranian counterpart to pay a visit to Minsk and Salehi reciprocated./end
