RIAU FLOODS HAVE SUBSIDED

Pekanbaru, Sept 24 (ANTARA) - The floods which recently submerged many parts of Riau province and temporarily displaced numerous residents have now subsided, a local social welfare official said.
All the districts and urban areas in Riau province that recently were inundated are now dry again, Delfi Mochtar, head of Riau province's Social Welfare Agency (BKS), said here Wednesday.
The districts where the floods had occurred were Kampar, Rokan Hulu, Rokan Hilir, Kuantar Singingi and Pekanbaru City.
No more puddles nor flood evacuees were now to be seen in the previously affected regions.
But he said BKS was still monitoring conditions in those areas since the possibility of recurrent floods was not ruled out, he said.
BKS was also preparing logistical aid in the form of tents and rubber boats in anticipation of a possible recurrence of the floods.
