Minister: Algeria keen to develop ties with Iran

Algiers, Oct 2, IRNA – Algeria's Interior Minister Dahou Oul Kablia in a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Algiers Mahmoud Mohammadi said that Algerian government and nation are keen to develop ties with Iran.

In a meeting here on Saturday, Kablia expressed his country's interest to cooperate with Iran and also welcomed relations between provinces of both countries in direction of expansion of ties.

The two sides also exchanged views on experiences in the fields of fight against drugs smuggling and terrorism.

Kablia said that terrorism is a political phenomenon adding that the event of September 11 indicated that the main goal of certain extremist groups is not religion or beliefs, but a political one.

Referring to order of the Algerian president on implementation of political reforms, Kablia said that the Interior Ministry is responsible for main part of the reforms and should hold municipality and governorate elections.

The Iranian envoy, for his part, expounded on Iran's experiences concerning relations of governors general of the country with their counterparts from other friendly nations.

He also submitted Iran's Interior Minister invitation letter to his Algerian counterpart for paying visit to Iran.

A delegation including experts in the field of fight against drugs smuggling are to travel to Algeria in near future to exchange views with their Algerian counterparts./end
