Five Qld horses dead from mystery illness

SYDNEY (AAP) - Oct 06 - The deaths of five horses at a property in the Gold Coast hinterland are being investigated by Biosecurity Queensland.
A spokesman said in a statement released to AAP late on Thursday that Biosecurity Queensland had received reports of five dead horses at a property in the Kooralbyn area.
Three other horses on the property were reported to be showing signs of illness, he said.
"While the horses are showing no symptoms that would indicate Hendra virus infection, samples have been taken for testing as a precaution," he said.
Biosecurity Queensland is working with the RSPCA and private veterinarians to determine the cause of the deaths.
The spokesman could not provide any further information.
