Sydney FC's Liam Reddy to take on Kewell

SYDNEY (AAP) - Oct 06 - Sydney FC goalkeeper Liam Reddy will be the first to attempt the most unenviable task in Australian soccer, stopping Melbourne Victory's star frontline of Harry Kewell, Carlos Hernandez and Archie Thompson.
But Reddy, who beat out rival Ivan Necevski to claim Sydney FC's goalkeeping duties for Saturday's blockbuster clash with the Victory, is confident the Sky Blues' defence will hold firm.
"They are a strong side and they have a lot of attacking options so it will be a tough assignment for all of us," he said.
"Not just Harry (Kewell) but Archie (Thompson), (Danny) Allsopp, Carlos Hernandez and (Jean Carlos) Solorzano, they have some good attacking players.
"But we have done well in recruiting some good experienced defenders like Megsy (Michael Beauchamp), Pascal Bosschaart and Jamie Coyne and both Jamo (Scott Jamieson) and Sebba (Sebastian Ryall) have looked good in pre-season."
Reddy, who started in 18 of the 30 Sydney FC A-League matches last season, is also well aware he will need to make the most of his early opportunity - having wasted a similar crack last year before poor form allowed Necevski to assume the role mid-season.
"Obviously I'm happy to have been selected to start the first game in goals,"
"We've had a great pre-season and it was made clear to us both (Reddy and Necevski) that it was a 50/50 choice and I'm glad I'll start the season.
"Now I have to make sure that I continue to train hard and perform week in week out because I know there is competition for a place.
"Last year I missed some matches and I dont want to do that again this season."
Sky Blues coach Vitezslav Lavicka warned Reddy he will have to be on his toes all season if he wants to retain the jersey.
"(Reddy) has done well and will start but we have two experienced goalkeepers and Liam and Ivy (Necevski) will continue to push each other all year," Lavicka explained.
