Stars await slime at Kids' Choice Awards

SYDNEY (AAP) - Oct 07 - Screams resonated across Sydney as hundreds of teenage girls lined the orange carpet and held up their mobile numbers for the hottest teen celebrities at this years Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards (KCAs).
Aussie export Cody Simpson was responsible for much of the decibel raising on Friday as he stepped onto the orange runway to greet fans and sign autographs.
Some celebrities came prepared for the inevitable KCA green slimings with MTV's Erin McNaught rocking a dress made entirely of wetsuit material and Natalie Bassingthwaighte walking the runway in an already green dress.
"If I get slimed I'm fine because I'm in green," Bassingthwaighte told AAP.
Fresh off the plane from his adopted US home, Simpson said he was excited to be back in his home country.
"I definitely miss it. It's good to be back. I'm obviously not in my hometown but its good to be back in my home country and see all these people out here showing love. It's so nice," he said.
Despite being nominated for three awards including Awesome Aussie against Rove McManus and Fave Aussie Musos against last year's co-host Jessica Mauboy, Simpson remains humble about his chances.
"I'm up against some pretty amazing nominations alongside myself. I don't know, we'll just have to wait and see," he told AAP.
MasterChef judge Matt Preston, KCA hosts iCarly stars Jennette McCurdy and Nathan Kress, Stan Walker, Justice Crew and comedian Josh Thomas also took to the carpet, all waiting in anticipation to see if they would be slime victims this year.
"I hope I get slimed tonight. I didn't get slimed last year because I was up in the air and I felt a bit left out so hopefully this year," Matt Preston told AAP.
Bindi and Bob Irwin returned to the orange runway they know so well, Bob unable to part with his Australia Zoo uniform for the night.
"It's great to get out of khaki every now and then and dress up, but you can see Robert here still has his uniform on, just in case he gets slimed," Bindi told AAP.
The pair are joint nominations for the night's Hall of Slime Award.
"We're carrying on in our dad's footsteps. He originally got the Burp Award here at Nickelodeon," Bindi said.
