Kazakh FM Hopeful about Giant Stride in Tehran-Astana Ties

TEHRAN (FNA)- Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Salehi expressed the hope that Tehran and Astana would witness a new era in the development of their ties and cooperation.
During the meeting here in Tehran on Saturday, the Kazakh foreign minister underlined the need for the further expansion of relations and promotion of mutual and regional cooperation between the two nations.

He further voiced pleasure in his first visit to Iran, and said the trip is aimed at accelerating expansion of cooperation and relations, hoping that the two nations' ties would experience a new era.

Also underlining the Iranian and Kazakh president's determination to develop Tehran-Astana relations, he urged full utilization of all capacities to boost the two countries' trade exchanges from the current $1.2bln to $5bln.

Kazykhanov also laid emphasis on the importance of the two nations' cooperation in transit and transportation projects, specially the North-South corridor, oil swap, pipeline construction, provincial cooperation, reciprocal investments, customs, development, communications, industries and mines, and stressed that Astana sees no limit for the activity of Iranian companies in Kazakhstan.

He also reiterated his country's enthusiasm for expanding cooperation and exchanges with the Islamic republic of Iran in cultural, art, scientific and academic grounds, and asked for more frequent visits by the two countries' parliamentarians.
