Bollywood pays tribute to Jagjit Singh
Mumbai, Oct 10 (PTI) Bollywood actors and directors
paid rich tribute to ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh, describing
his death as the loss of a "true legend".
From contemporaries like Mahesh Bhatt and Shaban Azmi to
admirers like Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, Bollywood
personalities mourned the demise of the ghazal king.
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said that his national award
winning film 'Arth' attained such heights because of its
music, which was composed by Singh and his wife Chitra.
"My film 'Arth' would not have touched the hearts of
millions of people without the contribution of Jagjit Singh.
Thank you friend. Thank you," Bhatt wrote on Twitter.
Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who starred in 'Arth',
said, "Jagjit Singh no more. His contribution to the ghazal in
India is unparalleled. Big loss," Shabana Azmi said.
Superstar Shah Rukh Khan also expressed his grief over
the demise of the music legend.
"Uff so sad to hear of the demise of Jagjit Singhji. May
Allah bless his soul," he tweeted.
"I grew up listening to the brilliance of Jagjit Singh.
My mother was a big fan and then made me one. RIP sir!!! Loss
of a true legend," director Karan Johar said.
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar said, "Terribly shocked to
hear the sad demise of Jagjit Singhji, in you I have lost a
dear friend, your soulful songs will remain till eternity,"
Bhandarkar said.
Acclaimed filmmaker and friend, Shekhar Kapur also paid
his tribute.
"A heart that captured millions through poetry and song.
Goodbye Jagjit, dear friend," said Kapur.
"Saddened to know 'The Ghazal King', Jagjit Singh is no
more. 'Tum itna jo muskura rahe ho', this song makes me
misty-eyed, especially today. RIP Jagjit Singh," Akshay Kumar
said.
"Another stalwart, Jagjit Singh, passes away. RIP,"
tweeted Farhan Akhtar.
"May god give peace to Mr Jagjit Singh's soul. He was
the king of poetry & soulful music. He will live in our hearts
forever.... RIP," Prity Zinta tweeted.
