GOVERNMENT, DPR DISCUSS PREPARATIONS FOR 2009 ELECTIONS
Jakarta, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - The government and the House of Representatives (DPR) discussed preparations for the 2009 general elections at a consultative meeting at the legislative building here on Thursday.
The government was at the meeting represented by Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto and Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, and the House by Speaker Agung Laksono, Deputy Speaker Muhaimin Iskandar and political party faction leaders. Also present at the meeting were the chairman and members of the General Election Commission (KPU).
The meeting dealt with the preparations for next year's general elections, especially the provision of election logistics and ballot papers.
The meeting which started at 1:30 Thursday afternoon was still going on when this report was filed.
Certain technical problems relating to ballot papers have lately become topics of public discussion. Among the problems are whether voters should punch or tick the candidates of their choice, the order in which the participating political parties and the names of legislative candidates appear on the ballot papers.
