PRESIDENT CALLS ON PEOPLE TO SUPPORT REGIONAL GOVT HEADS
Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, Sept 25 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on people from all walks of life in the country to support the heads of government in their respective regions regardless of the latter's political backgrounds.
"So long as the provincial, district, and municipal heads of government work for the prosperity of their peoples, they should be supported without regard of their political backgrounds," the President said after handing people's business credits and Self-supporting Community Empowerment Program assistance here on Thursday.
He said the governors, district heads and mayors should be supported because it was part of political ethics.
"It is indeed political ethics that require us to support whoever has been elected president, governor, district head, mayor, or legislative member," the president said in the company of Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nur Alam.
On the occasion the head of state reminded all governors, district heads and mayors across the country to stop depending on the central government, especially in financial matters because doing so was not in accordance with decentralization.
"I ask governors, district heads and mayors not to depend on the central government because such dependence is not in accordance with decentralization and regional autonomy," Yudhoyono said.
Commenting on Southeast Sulawesi Governor Nur Alam's report on development program in the province, Yudhoyono said regional administration officials should not thwart businessmen who intend e to invest in their regions.
"Do not make things difficult for investors who want to invest in a province or district," the president said in a warning addressed to all governors, district heads and mayors in the country.
The head of state also said the people's business credit (KUR) of Rp10 trillion which has been channeled to 1.1 million debtors would be continued.
"The amount of KUR at present is Rp10 trillion and we will continue to increase it until it reaches Rp15 trillion next year. Then we will discuss it with the House of Representatives (DPR) to gain its support," the president said.
